Share a little about Juanita’s Girls and why you established this non-profit.
Juanita’s Girls is a working non-profit organizations aiming to mentor and provide resources for girls 13-17 to inspire them to achieve their dreams. I decided to establish this as a tribute to all of the strong women who either helped raised me or mentored me during my adolescence phase. At least, the two women who have laid the foundation for my family, my great-grandmother Juanita Sowells & her sister, Dorothy Hood.
What was your favorite part of the design process and why?
Gosh, this is tough! I love everything from creating the mood board to figuring out the color schemes. The fun part about creating the design for Juanita’s Girls is because it is a tribute to all the strong women, in particularly my great-grandmother Juanita Sowells and her sister, my great-Aunt, Dorothy Hood. Juanita was very boisterous, energetic and full of vivacious personality, whereas Dorothy brought in more of the class, elegance and silent force. It was fun finding those color schemes to represent and compliment both of those women.
How do you feel about your new brand design for Juanita’s Girls?
I ADORE IT! I think it add the elegance and playfulness to who we are as an organization and the strong, bold confidence as well.
